Well, this blog does not serve as advise to any future PhD aspirants but it's more of a reflection of my own experiences (nascent). It contains part of the entire truth (the so called factoids) from personal experiments. MEMS caught my attention in the third year of my undergraduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering with introduction to VLSI fabrication schemes for Integrated circuits. This interest led me to choose an elective on MEMS in my final year where I learnt some basic principles of bio sensors and actuators at the microscale. I began wondering how small machines could help so many people (I am referring to BioMEMS in particular, where my interests lie) by letting them know their blood pressure, heart rate, glucose content in their blood, time to replace that tiny battery in a automatic temperature sensor, counting the number of bad cells in a sample etc. This curiosity led me to Purdue where I am now a PhD student working in the fascinating area of Biomedical Microdevices. As a newbie, I hope to have a lot of good learning experiences and wish to share some of them through this new Science blog (let's me practice writing often and not say I don't have time to write).
